Dressmaking - Make Your Own Pattern and Skirt with Tilly Walnes

Level - Beginner Plus

Sessions: 1

Class Size: 6 Max

Cost: £75.00

Learn to make this gorgeous gathered button-down skirt with practical pockets – aka the Picnic Blanket Skirt! The class starts as a gentle introduction to pattern making, guiding you through drafting a simple pattern to your own measurements. Then we’ll sew the skirt, learning techniques, tips and tricks along the way, including gathering, constructing a waistband, stitching pockets, forming buttonholes and finishing it all off neatly. You should already be comfortable with using a sewing machine and basic stitching.
Please bring along 2m fabric and 8 - 10 x 20mm buttons. Choose a medium weight cotton or linen – the skirt looks great in plain colours, gingham, polka dots, florals, cats, bicycles… you name it!
This is a Beginner Plus class - basic sewing machine skills are required.

About your teacher.....

Tilly Walnes writes the popular sewing blog www.tillyandthebuttons.com, offering practical tips and inspiration in a positive environment to encourage more people to have fun creating their own handmade wardrobe. Tilly has always been creative, but only developed a love affair with sewing relatively recently. Since then she has trained in professional sewing and pattern drafting, and the Mathilde Blouse is her first pattern design released for sale. She has a background in learning and the arts, her day job being to design training courses for independent cinemas and film festivals in the UK and across Europe. Tilly believes that sewing is for everyone, that you can make it as easy or as difficult as you like, and that there’s always more to learn and enjoy!
