Our Introduction to Sewing with Stretch Fabric is an intensive four-week programme making jersey garments for both men and women. Basic casual items of men's, women's and children's clothing are more commonly made using jersey, such as Leggings, T-shirts, Hoodies & Sweatshirts etc. yet novice sewers are commonly nervous about exploring the possibilities of sewing with stretchy material. Our course schedule not only teaches you the skills and tips unique to working with jersey but you will also come away with two finished garments for you to wear and be proud of. Completing this course will open up a whole new spectrum of commercial pattern options and you will leave with the confidence you need to make clothes from any fabric without limiting yourself to wovens only.
The four weekly sessions are grouped into 2 classes per garment, the following schedule will give you an idea of what you will achieve by the end of the course:

Please bring with you: A sewing machine and scissors will be allocated to you. We also recommend you either bring with you, or purchase from Ray Stitch, small tools such as pins, a tape measure, unpicker, needles, and thread snips.
Overlockers: This course will focus on how to gain a professional looking finish on jersey garments using your domestic sewing machine. In the second class we will give you the option to try using the overlocking machines to finish seams however, as this skill that is not versatile for those who don’t own an overlocker we will show you several alternative stitches that are achievable on your domestic machine including using a double needle.
