Introduction to Machine Sewing Part 1 - Make a Knot Bag
Maximum Class Size: 5 (reduced due to social distancing measures)
If you have never used a sewing machine before or you’re feeling a bit rusty, this is the class for you. We will familiarise you with the machine itself and teach you all the basic skills of machine sewing to give to the confidence to start simple projects on your own.
In this class you will cover the following techniques:
- Thread up your machine
- Wind on a bobbin
- Understand stitch tension, length and width
- Sew straight lines, corners and curves using a seam allowance
- Cut from a pattern template
- The art of pressing
During this three hour workshop you will use your new found skills to make your own Knot Bag made from Ray Stitch printed cotton fabric that is yours to keep and use forever! Once you have mastered these basic sewing skills you could enrol onto our Intro Part 2 - Essential Skills' class where you can learn further techniques that are unique to making your own clothes.
Materials: Materials are provided. The sewing pattern and instructions on how to make the knot bag will also be available for you so you can continue making more at home!
Please bring with you: A sewing machine and scissors will be allocated to you. We also recommend you either bring with you, or purchase from Ray Stitch, small tools such as pins, a tape measure, unpicker, needles, and thread snips.
If you are under 16, you will need to bring a responsible adult with you who has also booked a place. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org prior to booking for advice on suitable times and sessions.
If you would like to learn to sew on your own machine, please get in touch so that we can notify the teacher. Please note we can only accept machines that are less than 10 years old.
