Sew A Tiered or Pleated Dress

  • Make a Selection

Maximum Class Size: 6

This is a day long workshop where students will learn to make up either a tiered or pleated dress. Throughout the day you will learn new skills and techniques to improve your dressmaking and make you more confident in garment construction.

Level: This workshop is suitable for those who are already competent sewers and have had experience in using simple commercial dressmaking patterns. This class is ideal for those who are looking to advance their garment construction techniques or for self taught dressmakers who would like some expert guidance.

The two style variations both come with sleeve options, choose to go sleeveless, short, or mid length, you could also add a frill to complete the look!

Neither dress has a zip, so they just slip on over the head and are wonderfully comfortable, but they do have feminine shaping from the addition of bust darts, and waisted skirts.

You will cover the following techniques in class:

  • How to take the correct measurements in order to choose the right size pattern to cut
  • Reading commercial dressmaking patterns and their notations
  • Gathering skirts
  • How to attach a facing for a neat & professional looking neckline
  • Attach set in sleeves
  • Plus learn a range of a garment construction processes

Preparation: We ask that students prepare for this class by cutting out the paper pattern and fabric in your size before arrival. It's vital that you measure your bust and waist to choose your size as pattern sizing doesn't correspond with shop sizing. You can either pick your pattern up from our shop or we can post one out to you.

Materials: The pattern is included but you are required to bring your own fabric, which should be pre washed to avoid shrinkage.
