Log Cabins with Catherine-Marie Longtin

  • Make a Selection

Maximum Class Size: 6 Students

Level: Suitable for confident machine sewers

Join quilt-maker and textile artist Catherine-Marie Longtin for a creative and inspiring day of patchwork focused on her favourite technique—the Log Cabin. Traditionally built around a central square, Log Cabin blocks are endlessly versatile, and in this workshop you’ll explore the technique in fresh, contemporary ways using linen.

You’ll create three distinct variations, experiment with composition, and leave with either a quilted cushion or a piece ready to stretch and display as artwork. Whether you're looking to deepen your piecing skills or enjoy a meditative day of making, this class offers plenty of opportunity to play with form, colour, and texture.

Techniques Covered

  • Handling and cutting linen for patchwork
  • Full circle log cabin
  • Chain piecing
  • Paper foundation piecing (square or hexagonal block)
  • Fabric foundation piecing (irregular polygon log cabin)
  • Presentation techniques: turning your piece into a cushion or stretched textile artwork

Materials

All materials and tools are provided, including a selection of plain linen fabrics. If you’d prefer to bring your own fabrics, you’re welcome to do so. Machines and all equipment will be provided in the sewing school.
