Bias cut garments are synonymous with flowing gowns and expensive, delicate intimates, but this technique does not need to be reserved for only evening wear and lingerie. You can bring a bit of everyday luxury to the simplest garment just by cutting it on the bias. Bias cut garments are figure flattering and hang delicately.

During this workshop you will uncover a new cutting method as well as learn a few tips on how to handle silk. In the process of learning this new skill you will make a camisole top perfect for everyday wear or nightwear.

Level: This class is suitable for confident machine sewists who have previous experience in making sewn projects including a couple of simple garments. This workshop is an idea follow of from our Introduction to Machine Sewing 6 Week Course or Introduction to Dressmaking 6 Week Course.

In class you will cover the following techniques:

  • The rule of thumb for how much fabric to buy
  • Pattern lay plans & straight of grain
  • Marking the fabric
  • Learn how to cut patterns on the bias and
  • How to sew french seams
  • How to make narrow straps
  • Tips and techniques on garment construction
  • Hemming delicate fabrics

Fabric Requirements:
Fabric 120cm wide: 1.5m

Fabric Recommendations: Bamboo Silk and other silk or satin like fabrics.

Preparation: The pattern is yours to keep, we ask that it is cut to your size before the class - you are welcome to pick up the pattern in advance or we can post this out to you.
