Introduction to Machine Sewing Part 1 - Make a Cushion

If you have never used a sewing machine before or you’re feeling a bit rusty, this is the class for you. We will familiarise you with the machine itself and teach you all the basic skills of machine sewing to give to the confidence to start simple projects on your own.
In this class you will cover the following techniques:
- Thread up your machine
- Wind on a bobbin
- Understand stitch tension, length and width
- Sew straight lines, corners and curves using a seam allowance
- Cut from a pattern template
- Finishing seams with a zig zag stitch
- The art of pressing
During this three hour workshop you will use your new found skills to make an envelope cushion cover made from Ray Stitch printed cotton fabric that is yours to keep and use forever! Once you have mastered these basic sewing skills you could enrol onto our 'Introduction to Machine Sewing Part 2 - Essential Skills' class where you can learn further techniques that are unique to making your own clothes.
Materials: The cushion pad is included and all materials are provided. The sewing pattern and instructions on how to make a cushion cover will also be available for you so you can continue making more at home!
If you are under 16, you will need to bring a responsible adult with you who has also booked a place.
If you would like to learn to sew on your own machine, please get in touch so that we can notify the teacher. Please note we can only accept machines that are less than 10 years old.
