Introduction to Machine Sewing Part 1 - Make an Apron

Level 1: Complete Beginners. No experience needed—this workshop is perfect if you’ve never used a sewing machine before or are looking to refresh the basics.
This friendly and practical class is an ideal starting point for anyone interested in sewing. You’ll learn how to confidently use a sewing machine and work through essential sewing techniques as you construct a useful apron to take home. It’s the perfect foundation for future projects or garment making.
Techniques covered:
- How to thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin
- Sewing straight lines, corners, and curves
- Using seam allowances accurately
- How to lay out a paper pattern and cut fabric
- Pressing and finishing seams with a zigzag stitch
- Making and attaching straps
- Sewing on a patch pocket
You’ll leave with a finished apron, plus the pattern and instructions to make more at home.

Age Requirement:
Minimum age 12. If you are under 14, a responsible adult must also book a place and attend with you. Please email school@raystitch.co.uk before booking to discuss suitable session times.
Cancellation Policy
Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to fit you in on another date but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances.
In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.
