Make A Lined Coat - 4 Evening Sessions
Maximum Class Size: 6
Over four weekly sessions you will cut and construct this popular coat style by Papercut Patterns. The Sapporo is a fully lined cocoon coat which features cropped sleeves (which you can lengthen if you prefer) tapered cuffs and pockets hidden in the front seams. This coat has a flattering silhouette and could be made in any woven fabric; from a something light weight for the Summer right through to a heavy wool for Winter!
Level: This coat workshop is ideal for those who are already making clothes and would like to extend their knowledge beyond the basics to get a more professional finish to their garments with expert guidance from our teachers. We recommend this workshop to students who have completed our 6 Week Intro to Dressmaking Course, or equivalent. Students for this course should have made three or more garments using commercial sewing patterns.
You will cover the following techniques in class:
- Preparing your fabric and facings
- Understanding complex commercial sewing patterns and their notations
- How to make small alterations to the pattern for a better fit
- Garment construction techniques
- Set-in sleeves
- How to insert a lining
- One Step Button Holes
- Optional top stitch detail
Preparation For Class:
We ask students to prepare for class by cutting out the paper pattern and fabric at home, this will mean you have more time for sewing in class. The pattern is included in the price and you can either pick it up from our store or we can post it out to you... just let us know!
140cm wide - All sizes (Bust 32"-44"): 2.8m
140cm wide - All sizes (Bust 32"-44"): 1.4m
Fabric Recommendations: Wool and wool blends, heavy cotton canvas, drill and twill work perfectly, but it would also look fantastic in denim or corduroy! You can also choose a softer fabric such as medium weight twill or washed linen for a more transitional coat. We made ours in Panama Wool - Speckled Pastel Grey.
Tools and equipment are provided and the pattern is included but you will need to buy fabric, please see fabric requirements above.
Booking a class at Ray Stitch entitles you to 10% off everything in store where our staff will be happy to help with choosing your fabric.
