Make a Banner with Alice Gabb
Maximum Class Size: 6
Level: This class is suitable for confident machine sewers.
Join calligrapher, illustrator, lettering artist and stationery designer, Alice Gabb for this full-day workshop. Alice will introduce you to the history of banners and help you to create a statement banner of your own.
The finished banner size will be approximately 50cm wide by 85cm long.
You will need to bring:
1. Front piece of fabric: 50 x 85cm
It needs to be upholstery weight, not heavily textured; I use velvet. The letters will be white, so I recommend not being too pale, or patterned so that your lettering stands out as much as possible.
2. Reverse fabric: 50 x 85cm
Mid weight fabric. Can be as jazzy and patterned as you like! Please stick to something cotton(ish), no satins or shiny fabrics please.
3. Upholstery fringing/tassel trim: 1m length
I recommend between 5-15cm in drop.
Please provide us with the wording for your banner (Maximum 6 characters per line, and a maximum 12 characters in total - please note we cannot go over this character limit!) a week in advance and we will prepare the lettering for you to maximise time in class. This will be white craft felt.
About Alice Gabb:
After graduating from Bath Spa University in 2009 with a Visual Communications degree, she started to sell her hand printed fine stationery at the legendary Broadway Market in East London (and was voted ‘London’s Coolest Stall Holder’ in 2012). Running themes throughout her career have been continually centred around crests, frescos, heraldry, and the language of protest. She now works exclusively on splendid commissions from her Dalston studio, catering to all your hand-lettering needs.
