  • Make a Selection

Maximum Class Size: 6

Are you looking to build on your dressmaking skills? Making a pair of trousers might sound daunting but our Trouser Workshop will give you the confidence to make your own pair of everyday trousers.

The Merchant and Mills Eve Trousers - tapered leg trousers with optional turn-ups.

Level: This is an intermediate class, it is a perfect follow on from our Introduction to Dressmaking 6 Week Course, or ideal if you have already successfully made tops, skirts & dresses and need some guidance with your first pair of trousers.

During this one day workshop you will learn and improve your garment construction techniques such as sewing darts, facing a waistband, attaching front faced pockets and inserting a concealed zip. You will also learn how to adjust the fit of your trousers pattern to suit your shape and measurements. Your experienced sewing teacher will guide you step by step to help you achieve your first successful pair of self made trousers!

Materials: Sewing machines, tools & sundry notions are included however you are required to bring fabric for your trousers. We suggest that you pre wash your fabric at 30-40 degrees to avoid shrinkage after your garment has been made up.

Fabric Requirements: Between 1.5m and 2.5m depending on size, style choice and width of fabric. Please email with your preferences for help with this.

We request that the paper pattern and fabric are cut out beforehand, to maximise sewing time on the day! The pattern is included - please let us know if you would like to collect from the store or if you would like us to post this to you.

Fabric Recommendations: For the tapered trousers you could choose something medium-heavy weight, such as needlecord, twill, gaberdine, velvet or denim. Similar fabrics would work for the wide-leg trousers or you could choose something slightly lighter.

Tip: Search the pattern number/name in google/Instagram to find examples of these garments made up by others, it's helpful to see examples of the trousers made in lot's of different fabrics!

Please Note: We offer 10% off items bought in our shop in preparation for your class. Please ask a member of staff for help when choosing fabric for your garment and we’ll be happy to assist.
