Simplicity 1166 - Vintage 50's High-Waisted Button Skirt & Bra
Head back to the 1950s with this great vintage Simplicity sewing pattern. The pattern includes a button-up blouse, bra top with crossed back, and full skirt with buttons. The skirt has a shaped waistband so that the front is higher - flattering on the waist - with a lower back. The buttons don't go all of the way down so that you have ease of movement and a nice movement from the fabric when you walk. The blouse has an unsual squared shape so you can play around with contrast and top-stitching, and it can also be tied in the front. The bra top buttons in the front with a crossover back.
Sizes: H5 (6-14) and U5 (16-24) UK
Please select your size from the dropdown menu below. Please be aware that as this pattern is based on a vintage style, the sizing is much smaller compared to today's shop sizes and we advise looking at the garment measurements as well as size measurements.
Suitable fabrics: denim, twill and sateen would give the skirt a good heavy shape and support for the buttons, but try something lighter like poplin for a swishy look. The blouse would suit swiss dot, double gauze, chambray, lawn, silk and even chiffon. The bra top is better for stiff fabrics too, but could be lined in something soft like lawn for comfort.
