Product details

Maximum Class Size: 6

Level 3: Improver - Confident with a sewing machine and ready to start making clothes

This structured six-week course is the perfect next step for anyone ready to move from small projects into garment making, now featuring brand new pattern options.

Week 1 begins with a focused 3-hour session on the essentials, such as, taking accurate body measurements, reading pattern envelopes, choosing the right size, and selecting appropriate fabrics. This gives you a solid foundation before you cut into your fabric and is the equivalent to our Pattern Prep Workshop.

In weeks 2 and 3, you'll sew a simple top, choosing from one of our beginner-friendly patterns. In the second half of the course, you'll make a pair of comfortable elasticated waist shorts or trousers.

With expert guidance throughout, you'll work through each pattern, building confidence and developing key garment construction skills along the way.

Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.

Skills You'll Gain

Skills covered will depend on your chosen patterns and may include:

  • Working with bias facings and ribbed neckbands
  • Setting cap sleeves and elastic cuffs
  • Inserting invisible zips
  • French seams and professional finishing techniques
  • Topstitching and faux fly details
  • Tie closures and button details
  • Constructing elasticated and gathered waistbands
  • Inserting drawstrings
  • In-seam, hidden, and topstitched pockets
  • Hemming and seam finishing techniques

Materials & Pattern List

Two sewing patterns are included and can be viewed here. You’ll need to bring your own fabric, and we’ll send recommended options and fabric requirements after booking. All sewing machines, equipment, and essential materials (thread, interfacing, etc.) are provided in the studio.

Homework

To make the most of your sewing time in class, you may be asked to do a small amount of preparation at home, such as cutting out your fabric or catching up on simple steps between sessions.

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

If you're running late, please contact us as soon as possible by email. Unfortunately, if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the class starts, we may not be able to admit you as this can disrupt the learning experience for other students.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

Age Policy for Classes

At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.

If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
