Product details

Maximum Class Size: 6

Level 3: Improver - For confident machine stitchers, but no need to have any previous patchwork experience.

Join us for a special three-day workshop celebrating the upcoming publication of Log Cabin Quilt Blocks: 100 Colour and Pattern Variations by Catherine-Marie Longtin, to be published by Batsford on the 6th of August.

Across three days, this immersive workshop will guide you through the design and construction of a Log Cabin sampler quilt top. Using Catherine-Marie’s book as both a practical resource and a source of inspiration, you’ll explore the rich potential of this classic quilt block through colour, pattern and play.

The workshop will combine structured teaching with plenty of time for independent sewing. Catherine-Marie will be on hand throughout to offer guidance, support, and individual feedback as you develop your work.

Participants will learn and experiment with a range of techniques, including the basic Log Cabin construction method, fabric foundation piecing, the use of cornerstones, and more complex variations such as double line, full circle, quarter, and three-quarter blocks. We will also look at how to bring your blocks together through framing and sashing, considering composition and flow across the quilt top as a whole.

The aim is to produce a minimum of nine blocks over the three days (with more experienced participants likely to complete up to twelve), which will then be assembled into a finished quilt top.

Throughout the workshop, you will work with Ray Stitch’s beautiful linen fabrics. This workshop is suitable for those with some basic sewing experience who are looking to expand their skills, as well as more confident makers interested in deepening their approach to quilt construction and design.

Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

If you're running late, please contact us as soon as possible by email. Unfortunately, if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the class starts, we may not be able to admit you as this can disrupt the learning experience for other students.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

Age Policy for Classes

At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.

If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
