Product details

Maximum Class Size: 6

Level 3: Improver - For confident machine stitchers.

Join the inspirational textile artist and quilter Catherine-Marie Longtin to explore her favourite piecing technique.A log cabin block traditionally consists of strips of fabric, called “logs", arranged around a central square. Its enduring popularity stems from its versatility, both within individual blocks and in the arrangement of multiple blocks together.

In this full-day workshop, you will create a single block and learn three distinct variations of the log cabin using linen:

  • the double line log cabin
  • fabric foundation pieced log cabin
  • and herringbone log cabin

You will learn how to use linen in patchwork, how to piece log cabin blocks using two different techniques and leave with three samples ready to be transformed in a quilted cushion or used as an artwork stretched on a canvas frame.

Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.

Skills You'll Gain

  • Cutting and handling linen for patchwork
  • Double line log cabin
  • Foundation pieced log cabin
  • Herringbone linen log cabin variations
  • Presenting your work as a quilted cushion or framed artwork

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

If you're running late, please contact us as soon as possible by email. Unfortunately, if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the class starts, we may not be able to admit you as this can disrupt the learning experience for other students.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

Age Policy for Classes

At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.

If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
