Product details

Maximum Class Size: 6

Level 3: Improver - Confident with a sewing machine and ready to start making clothes.

Choose between two classic summer styles: The Sauvie Sundress - comfortable and stylish, worn as a strappy, hot-weather dress or layered over a Tee or The Cuff Dress with flattering round neck, gathered waist and cuffed sleeves. Both patterns feature a host of valuable dressmaking techniques.

Bring along your favourite summer fabric, linen is ideal for these two styles and the class is a good opportunity to be guided through the key techniques for working with it. Linen is a beautiful natural fabric but has a reputation for being trickier than cotton due to its drape and texture, with the right guidance it's very achievable and the results are worth it. Our exclusive Washed Linen, woven in Lithuania and available in a range of in-house colours, is a beautiful starting point if you're still choosing your fabric.

This class pairs well with our Pattern Prep Workshop if you'd like support with measurements, sizing, and fabric choice before you start. Book both together for £220 instead of £245 (discount applied automatically at checkout).

To make the most of your sewing time, we ask all stitchers to come with their pattern and fabric already cut out. Full preparation guidance is sent with your booking confirmation.

Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full-price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.

Skills You’ll Gain

The techniques you'll learn depend on your chosen pattern and may include:

  • Working with the drape and characteristics of linen
  • Sewing bust darts
  • Constructing narrow straps
  • Creating V-necklines or keyhole back openings
  • Setting cap sleeves with elastic cuffs
  • Inserting elasticated waists
  • Making in-seam or topstitched pockets
  • Pressing and finishing linen seams
  • Hemming techniques for lightweight fabrics

Materials & Pattern Details

The pattern is included and are listed below. You'll need to bring your own linen fabric, pre-washed to avoid shrinkage and soften the fibres.

Sew House Seven - Sauvie Sundress

The Assembly Line - Cuff Dress

Fabric recommendations: Choose light to medium-weight plain linen, linen ginghams or linen blends. We recommend avoiding very crisp or heavy linens for your first linen dress.

Our team is happy to help you choose the perfect linen in-store.

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

If you're running late, please contact us as soon as possible by email. Unfortunately, if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the class starts, we may not be able to admit you as this can disrupt the learning experience for other students.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

Age Policy for Classes

At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.

If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
