Open to all levels. A mindful and creative approach to visible mending

This 3 hour workshop is perfect for anyone interested in learning the art of decorative darning, whether you're completely new to sewing or looking to develop your mending skills.

Shelley Zetuni, the creative mind behind @sewingsmith, brings a wealth of textile expertise to her work. With a background in couture millinery, she transitioned into sustainable mending, drawing inspiration from the Japanese art of Kintsugi, celebrating flaws as part of a garment’s story. Her approach to repair is both practical and artistic, turning well-worn pieces into treasured, beautifully restored items.

Skills You'll Gain

Darning is a traditional method of mending holes by interweaving yarns to reinforce and close up damaged areas. This technique is perfect for extending the life of socks, jumpers, scarves, or any other holey knitted items in your wardrobe.

During the workshop, you’ll:

  • Learn the fundamentals of darning and how to apply them to different fabrics
  • Choose between visible or invisible mending techniques
  • Practice on knitted samplers provided or work directly on your own garments
  • Get expert guidance on selecting yarns, tension control, and creating strong, lasting repairs

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

If you're running late, please contact us as soon as possible by email. Unfortunately, if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the class starts, we may not be able to admit you as this can disrupt the learning experience for other students.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

Age Policy for Classes

At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.

If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
