Pattern cutting is one of the most empowering skills you can learn as a dressmaker. It helps you understand fit, improve existing patterns, and bring your own design ideas to life. In this two-day workshop, you'll learn to draft your own perfectly fitting bodice, sleeve, and skirt blocks using the widely acclaimed Telestia Method, taught by expert pattern cutter and designer Alice Prier.

Alice brings years of couture experience and a love of teaching to this fun and accessible approach. You'll leave the weekend with a custom block, a calico toile, and the skills to start adapting your block into new designs.

Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.

Day 1: Drafting & Fitting

Take accurate body measurements
Use the Telestia template to draft your personal bodice, sleeve and skirt blocks
Add seam allowances and pattern markings
Sew a calico toile and make fit adjustments as needed

Day 2: Creative Pattern Adaptations

Pivot darts and create princess seams or panels
Change necklines and add collars
Use slash-and-spread techniques to add volume and shaping
Learn to adapt your block into tops, dresses or skirts
Discuss how to use your block with commercial patterns

These core techniques will give you a foundation to design and draft anything from structured dresses to loose-fit tops.

All tools and materials are provided, including access to the Telestia drafting template. The template and instruction book are available to purchase for £85 should you wish to create blocks in additional sizes or continue experimenting at home.

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

If you're running late, please contact us as soon as possible by email. Unfortunately, if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the class starts, we may not be able to admit you as this can disrupt the learning experience for other students.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.
