Product details

Maximum Class Size: 6

Level 4: Intermediate. You've made several garments and are ready to take on more involved construction.

Stitch a shirt you'll reach for again and again. Over two days, you'll work through a classic shirt in order, from the collar and stand to the cuffs and plackets, learning the techniques that give a shirt its crisp, professional finish.

The pattern is included in the price, and you can choose from the Grainline Studio Archer, The Assembly Line Front Pleat Shirt, and the Wardrobe By Me Anna and Jensen shirts. The Jensen is drafted in menswear sizing. If you have a different shirt pattern in mind, get in touch before booking. With enough notice we may be able to accommodate it.

To make the most of your two days, we ask all stitchers to come with their pattern and fabric already cut out. Please wait for your preparation email before cutting, as it includes guidance on sizing and fabric.

Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.

Skills You'll Gain

The techniques you'll learn depend on your chosen pattern and may include:

  • Constructing a collar and collar stand
  • Enclosing seams with a double yoke
  • Sleeve plackets and cuffs
  • Button bands and buttonholes
  • Interfacing collars, cuffs and bands
  • Hemming a curved shirt tail

Materials & Pattern List

The pattern is included with your booking, but you will need to bring your choice of fabric. We recommend light to medium weight woven fabrics such as our Japanese shirt weight plain cotton, printed cotton poplin or lawn for a crisp finish that will showcase the shirt's clean lines beautifully.

Pattern Options

Grainline Studio - Archer

The Assembly Line - Front Pleat Shirt

Wardrobe By Me - Anna

Wardrobe By Me - Jensen

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

If you're running late, please contact us as soon as possible by email. Unfortunately, if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the class starts, we may not be able to admit you as this can disrupt the learning experience for other students.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

Age Policy for Classes

At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.

If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
