European Herringbone Linen - Aspall

Price is per HALF metre.

SWATCH AVAILABLE

Developed in-house, our exclusive collection of high quality, 100% European linen with a distinctive herringbone weave using two carefully matched colours to make up each colourway.

The colour is subtly different on either side of the fabric - one features the weft more visibly, whereas the warp is seen more on the other. The Herringbone weave with it’s alternating directions of pattern, showcases the two matched colours perfectly and also gives the fabric a look of ‘weight’ without it being heavy. Either side can be used as the ‘face’ side and the weight and drape make it perfect for dressmaking.

Our linen is grown and manufactured in Europe and is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified.

Linen is a natural material with great advantages when used as a fabric for garment making and homeware. Linen perfectly absorbs humidity and adapts to hot and cold temperatures making it comfortable to wear. It doesn‘t cause any allergic reactions, it is antistatic and doesn’t stain easily.

Linen is a great choice in terms of sustainability and its credentials far outweigh those of cotton:

- Flax grows naturally and thrives in the European climate, it typically requires fewer pesticides, herbicides and fungicides than cotton and its growing term is relatively short meaning that far less water is required over the growing period.
- There is very little waste in the production of linen as parts of the plant can be used for consumption and other products.
- Linen is strong and durable, its good wearing properties will mean that garments last longer.
- Linen is easy to wash and naturally dries quickly.

To attain Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, the fabric has been tested and certified to be free from harmful levels of more than 100 substances known to be harmful to human health.
