Product details

Maximum Class Size: 6

Level 4 - Intermediate: For experienced garment makers looking to advance their skills.

Spend the weekend in our sewing studio making your own version of the stylish and much-loved Sanda Jacket by Merchant & Mills. With its boxy, oversized silhouette and rolled collar, the Sanda is the perfect balance of utility and style. Available in two lengths, the coat has inseam pockets and the jacket has patch pockets.

Under expert guidance, you'll work through each stage of construction, learning how to work with heavier-weight fabrics and linings for a polished, professional finish.

Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.

Skills You'll Gain

  • Bagging out a lining
  • Applying lined patch pockets
  • Buttonholes on medium weight fabric
  • Constructing a rolled collar and turn-back cuffs
  • Managing bulk and achieving clean finishing techniques

Materials

The pattern is included, but you’ll need to bring your own outer fabric, lining, and notions. A full list of recommended fabrics and requirements will be sent to you after booking, and our team is always happy to advise in-store.

Fabric Recommendations

The Sanda Jacket works well in a range of medium weight woven fabrics such as cotton twill, canvas, denim, corduroy, or wool. If this is your first time making a coat, we recommend choosing a stable, easy-to-handle fabric like cotton twill or 8-10oz denim for a smoother sewing experience. If using a heavier weight fabric, it might be helpful to use lining fabric on the under collar.

Our team is always happy to advise on fabric and supplies in-store.

Preparation

To maximise your sewing time during the weekend, please arrive with your pattern and fabric pre-cut. We'll send detailed preparation guidance with your booking confirmation, so wait for this email before cutting your fabric to ensure you have all the information you need.

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

Age Policy for Classes

At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.

If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
