Product details

Maximum Class Size: 8

Level: Open to all. A mindful and creative approach to visible mending

This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in learning the art of decorative darning, whether you're completely new to sewing or looking to develop your mending skills.

Shelley Zetuni, the creative mind behind @sewingsmith, brings a wealth of textile expertise to her work. With a background in couture millinery, she transitioned into sustainable mending, drawing inspiration from the Japanese art of Kintsugi, celebrating flaws as part of a garment’s story. Her approach to repair is both practical and artistic, turning well-worn pieces into treasured, beautifully restored items.

What you'll learn

Spend a few slow-stitching hours with professional darner and mender @sewingsmith, exploring how to turn worn-out areas into beautiful, colourful details. This workshop focuses on celebrating imperfections and creating highly decorative darns that add unique character to your garments.

During the session, you’ll:

  • Learn the fundamentals of darning and how to approach different fabrics
  • Experiment with colours and patterns to create eye-catching mends
  • Practice on samplers provided in class before moving on to your own items
  • Absorb the gentle, mindful art of hand stitching in a relaxed setting

Materials: All tools and materials are provided, including printed guides to support your learning. You can find our selection of darning wool here. Refreshments will be available throughout the session.

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

Age Policy for Classes: At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.

If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
