Product details
Maximum Class Size: 6
Level 4: Intermediate - Suitable for proficient machine stitchers with experience using sewing patterns.
This two-day workshop is ideal for anyone looking to build confidence using an overlocker. Whether your machine is gathering dust at home or you've had a go and want to develop your skills, this class will help you master the basics and apply them by sewing two simple stretch fabric garments.
We recommend starting with something straightforward to build confidence on the first day before moving on to a second project on day two. You're very welcome to bring your own overlocker, especially if you'd like to get familiar with its setup and quirks. If you don't have a machine, you'll use one of our Janome 6234XL overlockers in the studio.
Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.
Skills You'll Gain
- Threading your overlocker
- Adjusting tension and stitch length
- Changing needles
- Using machine accessories
- Adjusting the blade position
- Basic maintenance and troubleshooting
- Overlocking woven and stretch fabric samples
Materials
You’ll need to bring two patterns of your choice and fabric for both garments. You can view our recommended pattern selection here.
If bringing your own overlocker, please ensure it's in good working order and bring the manual, foot pedal, and accessories like tweezers, screwdrivers, and allen keys. Please email us your make and model in advance.
All tools, overlockers, and studio equipment will be provided, and our team is always happy to help advise on suitable fabrics and patterns in-store.
Cancellation Policy
Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.
In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.
Age Policy for Classes
At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.
Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.
If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
