Maximum Class Size: 4
Level 4 - Intermediate: Best suited to those with a good understanding of garment construction and who have sewn a range of projects using commercial patterns.
Transform your favourite, well-loved garment into a reusable pattern in this comprehensive all-day workshop. You'll learn professional pattern-cutting techniques to accurately replicate your favourite item without damaging the original, techniques you can also apply to other garments in your wardrobe. This workshop provides a solid foundation in pattern cutting, introducing you to essential techniques and terminology.
Working at a relaxed pace with expert guidance, you'll trace your garment to create accurate pattern pieces, add all necessary markings and seam allowances, and learn to read the construction clues your garment provides. Time permitting, you'll cut and begin sewing a toile to test your new pattern. You'll also learn how to calculate fabric requirements and create step-by-step construction notes to use with your patterns at home.
Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.
Skills You'll Gain
- An overview of various pattern-cutting techniques
- Professional pattern tracing techniques without deconstruction

- Creating accurate grain lines, notches, and balance marks
- How to calculate fabric requirements for your patterns
- Creating construction notes and sewing instructions from existing garments

Materials
All tools and materials are provided. Please bring a simple, well-fitting garment in woven fabric (basic tops, simple dresses, or trousers work well). Avoid complex construction, stretch fabrics, or heavily lined garments.
Cancellation Policy
Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.
In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.
Age Policy for Classes
At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.
Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.
If you're planning to book for a young person, we recommend emailing us first so we can help guide you to the most suitable class for their age and experience level.
