Foundation Paper Piecing with Catherine-Marie Longtin
Maximum Class Size: 6
Level: Intermediate. For confident machine sewers with some patchwork experience.
Learn how to create crisp, precise patchwork blocks using the foundation paper piecing method in this one-day workshop with textile artist Catherine-Marie Longtin. This technique is ideal for designs requiring perfect points and repeated accuracy, and is especially useful when working with fabrics like linen or silk that benefit from stabilisation.
Catherine-Marie will guide you through the fundamentals of foundation paper piecing using two of her signature patterns: Concentric Square and Tile Variation. You’ll make a sample of each block and explore ways to expand them into a quilt or mount them as finished textile artworks.
This is a calm, focused class for anyone looking to develop accuracy and explore new ways of working with fabric and shape.
Techniques covered:
- How to follow a foundation paper piecing pattern
- Techniques for sewing precise points and angles
- Stabilising fabric using paper templates
- Block construction and joining
- Finishing ideas for displaying your work
Materials: All materials and printed patterns for your sample blocks are included. You’re welcome to bring your own fabrics if you’d like to personalise your work. We recommend bringing lightweight cottons or linens if you’d like to work with your own materials.
