Level 3: Improver For students who are confident using a sewing machine and ready to start garment sewing. Ideal if you’ve completed our Introduction to Machine Sewing or a Level 2 skills class.

This structured six-week course is the perfect next step for anyone ready to move from small projects into garment making. Working through commercial sewing patterns with expert guidance, you’ll learn how to read instructions, understand fit and sizing, and apply essential construction techniques.

You’ll complete at least two garments, and if time allows, begin a third project of your choice. The course is broken into two parts: a top in the first three sessions, followed by a skirt, trouser, or dress in the second half, giving you practical experience with a range of garment types and sewing skills.

  • How to read and follow commercial sewing patterns
  • Choosing pattern sizes and understanding fabric guides
  • Preparing and cutting fabric accurately
  • Neckline finishes: facings or ribbing
  • Setting in sleeves
  • Constructing waistbands
  • Inserting zips
  • Finishing seams and hems neatly

Materials

Sewing patterns are included and can be viewed here. You’ll need to bring your own fabric, and we’ll send recommended options and fabric requirements after booking. If you have a pattern in mind, we’re happy to confirm whether it’s suitable for the course.

All sewing machines, equipment, and essential materials (thread, interfacing, etc.) are provided in the studio.

Homework

To make the most of your sewing time in class, you may be asked to do a small amount of preparation at home, such as cutting out your fabric or catching up on simple steps between sessions.

Booking a class at Ray Stitch entitles you to 10% off in-store during the course and for one week after. Our shop team is always happy to help with fabric suggestions and notions.

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to fit you in on another date but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.
