Level 3: Improver For students who are confident using a sewing machine and ready to start garment sewing. This course is ideal for those who have completed our Introduction to Machine Sewing or a Level 2 skills class.

This three-session course is a focused introduction to garment making. You'll learn how to use a commercial sewing pattern and construct a simple, wearable top from start to finish.

Choose from a range of beginner-friendly patterns and receive expert guidance throughout the entire process, from reading pattern instructions to sewing the final seam. If you'd like to try other patterns in future, the course can be repeated to make additional garments.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to read and use commercial sewing patterns
  • Understanding pattern sizing and fabric requirements
  • Preparing and cutting out fabric
  • Setting in sleeves
  • Finishing seams and hems
  • Fastening and opening techniques (e.g. facings, closures)

Materials

Sewing patterns are included and can be viewed here. You’ll need to bring your own fabric, and we’ll send you a list of recommended options and requirements once you’ve booked. If you have a pattern in mind, we’re happy to confirm whether it’s suitable.

All sewing machines, equipment, and essential materials (basic thread colours, interfacing, etc.) are provided.

Booking a class at Ray Stitch entitles you to 10% off everything in-store for one week. Our team is happy to help advise on fabric and supplies for your project.

Cancellation Policy

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to fit you in on another date but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.
